Temple Tour
The temple is the centre for all points in the life of Hindu it is religious, educational, cultural and social. The temple is place where one can rise above the world. The temple is place where a human being may move towards God where divine knowledge can be revealed. The divine purpose of temple is to connect human to God. Temple is considered not just abode of God but God himself. The walk to old town can be made a little bit spiritual by visiting the temples built by Kings, Queens and some faithful devotees. Temples were built to seek the blessing of Gods and Goddess. To build temple is believed to have health, wealth, and prosperity. The temples in the old city are not only grand in size but also have the architectural importance as well. Most of these temples are in old part of town and a very popular place for devotees. All you need is to travel in old town on foot and you can explore some of the magnificent, spiritual, peaceful places in the town. Our tour consisted some old temples of the old city of Jodhpur.

Gang Shyam Ji Temple dedicated to Lord Krishna built by Rao Ganga in 1515 A.D. The idol in the temple was brought by Princess Padma Bai of Sirohi when she got married to Rao Ganga. The present temple was built by Maharaja Bijay Singh. The entire temple is of Vaishnav style and is worth to look not only because of beautiful engravings on its walls. Stunning mosaic work has also been done. Pooja is performed according to Vaishnav traditions and regular Aarti viz. Mangla, Shringar, Rajbhoj, Utthapan, Sandhya and Shyan are performed according to fixed schedules.

Achal Nath Shivalaya was constructed by Rani Padma Devi wife of Rao Ganga in year 1531 A.D. Original this place was covered with banyan tree during foundation of Jodhpur in year 1459 A.D. As per legend Naga saints once saw a cow milking itself. They dug the ground and found Shivling. The Naga saints began to worship Shivaling and erected a small temple. The Sixth Mahant Chainpuri bestowed his blessing on Rao Ganga as a result of which Rao Ganga was blessed with a son. Rao Ganga decided to place the Shivling on a higher pedestal, however inspite of immense effort they were not able to move the Shivling and Shivling started called as Achaleshwar or Achal Nath means God who doesn’t move. This temple complex has a water reservoir called Ganga Bawri. The Naga saints Durgapuri, Daulatpuri and Chainpuri took Samadhi in the temple complex. Presently it has seventeen Samadhis in the temple complex.

Kunj Bihari Temple another temple dedicated to lord Krishna. Krishna got this name because Krishna use to spend most of his time in forest (Kunj). The temple was built by Gulab Rai in the memory of her son Sher Singh in year 1779 A.D. Its entrance is an example of architectural excellence and has a elaborately carved shikhar stands on the sanctum sanctorum. The pinnacle of the Shikhar has an artistic Kalash. As per Vaishnav tradition this temple also performs timely arti viz. Mangla, Shringar, Rajbhoj, Utthapan, Sandhya and Shyan. During Sawan month (July & August) this temple specially organized Sawan Mahotsav. A month long festival where temple is decorated with attractive lighting and eye catching festoons
